A landmark step for electrification in the heavy transport sector: on 24 July 2026, at the BEHALA RoRo terminal in Berlin, a Siemens Energy gas turbine weighing around 430 tonnes was moved on a modular trailer powered by Goldhofer's fully electric E-PowerPack unit. According to reports by AJOT and Heavy Lift & Project Forwarding International, the operation was the technology's first real-world heavy transport application in this weight class in Europe.
From Aircraft Tug to Heavy Haulage
As reported by The Construction Index, the E-PowerPack delivers around 340 hp, and its technology is derived from Goldhofer's electric apron tractors, which tow aircraft of up to 350 tonnes. The unit is not a prototype: it is offered as a market-ready, series-produced solution with full telematics integration.
Zero Emissions, Less Noise
The operation was carried out with zero local emissions and significantly reduced noise. These characteristics respond directly to increasingly strict emission and noise constraints on routes through densely populated urban areas and during night-time operations.
BEHALA's Track Record of 300 Turbines
According to Binnenschifffahrt Online, BEHALA has transported more than 300 Siemens Energy gas turbines built in Berlin over the city's waterways since 2012. For the premiere, it was stipulated that the same transport task with the same load had to be completed with only the drive system changed — so the new drive proved itself on a task performed for years.
