25 Transit Trips Completed from Russia to Mersin via Iran

October 17, 2026

Between 19 August and 30 September 2026, Voltim Global completed 25 bonded transit trips from more than 15 Russian cities to Mersin, Turkey, via Iran.

Mersin, October 2026. Between 19 August and 30 September 2026, Voltim Global completed 25 bonded transit trips from Russia through Iran to Mersin, Turkey. Cargo was loaded in more than 15 Russian cities, from St Petersburg to Omsk. Our own team ran the whole operation: loading plans, transit documents, border crossing coordination, daily tracking and delivery.

Russia–Iran–Turkey transit means that goods loaded in Russia cross Iranian territory under customs control and arrive at the customs office of destination in Turkey. The route works as a third option alongside the two links we have used between Russia and Turkey for years: the Verkhniy Lars road crossing and the Tuapse–Taşucu RoRo line.

How does the route work?

Voltim Global has no office, partner or agent in Iran. That is why we run every step of each trip ourselves, with one accountable team:

  1. Planning the truck and loading date at the shipper's address in Russia, coordinated by our Moscow office
  2. Preparing and checking the bonded transit documents before loading
  3. Coordinating the border crossings; the main crossing between Iran and Turkey is Gürbulak–Bazargan, and the crossing for each trip is set in the trip plan
  4. Tracking the trip daily, with regular status reports to the shipper and the consignee
  5. Handling customs formalities at destination and delivering the cargo in Mersin

Which Russian cities did the cargo come from?

During this period we collected cargo in the following cities:

  • Moscow
  • St Petersburg
  • Yekaterinburg
  • Voronezh
  • Nizhny Novgorod
  • Omsk
  • Obninsk
  • Vladimir
  • Izhevsk
  • Rybinsk
  • Sosnovy Bor
  • Volgodonsk
  • Novovoronezh
  • Zheleznogorsk
  • Morshansk

The list shows that the route is not tied to a single region. Cargo can be collected in the Northwest (St Petersburg, Sosnovy Bor), along the Volga (Nizhny Novgorod, Rybinsk), in the Urals (Yekaterinburg, Izhevsk) and in Siberia (Omsk).

What are the key facts of the route?

  • Period: 19 August – 30 September 2026
  • Trips: 25 bonded transit trips
  • Loading: more than 15 cities in Russia
  • Routing: Russia → Iran → Turkey
  • Destination: Mersin
  • Operation: loading, documents, border coordination, tracking and delivery managed by Voltim Global

Why has this corridor gained importance?

After a site visit on 13 August 2026, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) described Gürbulak–Bazargan as one of the region's key road corridors, linking Turkey and Europe with Central Asia via Iran, and noted that disruption on sea routes has increased the importance of road transport (IRU news release). Russia, Iran and Turkey are all Contracting Parties to the TIR Convention (UN Treaty Collection), which gives bonded transit under customs seal a common legal basis.

What does the transit time depend on?

There is no single transit time for this route. It depends on the routing, congestion at the border crossings, the type of cargo and how complete the documents are, and border congestion changes from period to period. We therefore confirm the trip plan and an indicative schedule for each shipment in our quotation.

How much Russia–Turkey experience does Voltim Global have?

Voltim Global has worked in international road freight since 2014 and has completed more than 1,500 trips across all routes. Between Russia and Turkey we use the Lars road route and the Tuapse–Taşucu RoRo line, and on the Akkuyu supply corridor we have handled more than 450 shipments since March 2024. Our Moscow office coordinates loading in Russia, and our head office in Mersin manages the destination side. Details of the transit regime are on our bonded and transit transport page.
